Heather Humphrey, General Counsel and Senior Vice President, Human Resources, Great Plains Energy and KCP&L
As General Counsel and Senior Vice President of Human Resources, Heather Humphrey leads KCP&L’s legal, corporate security and human resources divisions. In her role as General Counsel, she is responsible for corporate governance, commercial issues, corporate security, litigation and regulatory matters. With respect to HR, Ms. Humphrey is responsible for compensation, benefits, labor relations, staffing and organizational development. Since joining KCP&L in 2007, she has held several positions, including Managing Attorney-Litigation and Employment, Senior Director, Human Resources, and Interim General Counsel.
Before coming to KCP&L, Ms. Humphrey was a partner with Shughart Thomson & Kilroy in Kansas City, Mo., practicing business and employment litigation for more than 11 years. While in private practice, Ms. Humphrey spent several years as hiring partner and served on the firm’s strategic planning committee. Prior to joining the law firm, Ms. Humphrey was a law clerk for the Honorable W. Duane Benton at the Missouri Supreme Court.
Ms. Humphrey graduated magna cum laude with a B.S. in business administration from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She received her J.D. from Washington University School of Law in St. Louis, Mo., and M.B.A. from the Bloch School of Management at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She is licensed in Missouri and Kansas and admitted to the U.S. District Courts for the Western District of Missouri and District of Kansas.
Ms. Humphrey serves on the boards of directors for Starlight Theater, The Children’s Center for the Visually Impaired and the Kansas City Friends of Alvin Ailey. She is a 2005 graduate of the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce Centurions Leadership Program and is a member of the University of Missouri- Kansas City Human Resources Advisory Council.
