Marvin Rollison, Vice President, Safety and Corporate
Services, KCP&L
As vice president of Safety and Corporate Services, Marvin L. Rollison is responsible for KCP&L's safety, security and facilities strategy and corporate services operations. This involves establishing safety guidelines and procedures for more than 3,000 employees located at 47 facilities, service centers and power plants.
Mr. Rollison began his KCP&L career in 1988 as an engineer, receiving successive promotions to engineering supervisor and plant maintenance superintendent. In 2004, as the company was formulating its highly effective Comprehensive Energy Plan, a need for growing the company's employee culture was identified. This led to Mr. Rollison's promotion to vice president, Corporate Culture and Community Strategy, where he was instrumental in developing the company's Winning Culture platform and introducing employee-led IDEAL Partner teams that continue to address cultural issues throughout the organization.
In February 2007, following his successful leadership of a cross-functional team that developed a roadmap for Tier 1 integration of Aquila and Great Plains Energy generation assets, Mr. Rollison was promoted to vice president of Gas and Renewable Operations. In this position, he introduced several innovative renewable projects that expanded the company's renewal energy portfolio. These projects included the company's first landfill energy project, located in St. Joseph, Mo., and an in-depth study of the potential use of biofuel at one of KCP&L's major generating facilities. He also served as a member of the Sustainable Resource Strategy team, which identified the company's strategic business course for the future.
Mr. Rollison holds an Associate in Engineering degree from Penn Valley Community College, a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and an Executive Master’s in Business Administration from Rockhurst University. He is also a graduate of the Urban League’s Multicultural Leadership Development Institute.
Mr. Rollison is a member of the American Association of Blacks in Energy (AABE) and he serves on the boards of directors for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City and KC Harmony, an organization that works to build an inclusive community.
